The closest paradise from Jakarta, 20 minutes from Marina Bay, Ancol and you are there. I know it sounds too close, but you can’t hear any traffic from Jakarta so don’t take this island off your list just yet! This island offers you various cottages both floating and on land, a beautiful ocean view restaurant, various water sports activities and last but not least, the heritage of the Dutch colonialization, Martello Fortress. Eco-tourism had always been the foundation of this island since the beginning, beautiful and comfortable are two suitable words for the island. Martello Fortress is also one of the people’s favorites to take some artsy pictures and also learn the unique history of the island itself even in Indonesian History. You can easily access this island by book yourself in one of the tour packages available in Jakarta and the internet. So, this is the time to pack your bag and go!

4. Pulau Pramuka

Last, but not least, we have the most populated island in Pulau Seribu, yet this island is the most famous island in Pulau Seribu. But don’t get it wrong, you can still enjoy the best of Pulau Pramuka if you know where to go and one of them is the conservation for Hawksbill Turtles (Penyu Sisik). Hawksbill turtles have sadly been listed in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as one of the endangered animals in the world. The mission of this place is to protect, rehab and release. They protect the eggs from illegal hunting along the beach in Pulau Pramuka and the islands around it, once the eggs have hatched, they will foster them until they are ready to be released in the open ocean. This conservation has been established since 1984, with how long they’ve handled conservation, it is safe to say they really know what they are doing.
Another activity you can do is Scuba Diving and Snorkeling. There are a few diving schools to go to and they also provide a diving course there but make sure you have the time to finish all the course sessions before you book one. Unlike any other islands previously mentioned, this island is a non-resort island, but there are homestays you can rent where you could live among the locals.
Since this is the most famous island, there are a lot of ways to reach this destination, you can always go from Marina Bay if you don’t like being in the crowd and going through the traditional fish market in Muara Angke which, as fish markets usually are, have unpleasant scents. But if you want to merge and get to know the locals, then the second option will always welcome you with open arms. You need 2,5 hours by motorboat, and you will arrive at this heavenly destination.
